On this months installment of Monthly Musings, we've put together a color palette based on foraged and earthy tones that we like to call MUSHROOM.
There is something undeniably magical about September that has us yearning for cozy sweaters, hearty meals, and earthy color palettes. Although the temperatures in Lodi aren't what one might think of as quintessential fall weather, we feel incredibly lucky to enjoy cooler nights out at some of our favorite local wineries, cozy up in a cashmere sweater, and create a list of some of our favorite recipes to enjoy with friends. As we anticipate Autumn Equinox and manifest cooler days ahead, we couldn't help but feel inspired by the unique charm of mushrooms, in all of their beauty, just in time to forage!
DWELL
After Labor Day weekend, we find ourselves really wanting to create a space in-doors that feels warm and inviting. As summer has kept us outdoors and enjoying the sun and its warmth, September feels like a great transitional time to focus on our interiors and really hone in on creating a respite before the holiday frenzy.
We love a muted palette for fall, and September feels like a great time to incorporate gorgeous mushroom tones, such as taupes, grays, and earthy organic greens. These neutral and organic tones set the stage to invite statement pieces into the living space.
Adding in bolder fixtures with interesting textures helps to bring life to a neutral palette (think marbles, concretes, terracotta). Bold statement pieces will help to create balance with more of the neutral shades that we have been so inspired by lately.
Although we love to call these gorgeous colors "muted tones" you'll find that they actually have so much to say. Browns, taupes, and grays help to add an organic feel to any room, and when paired with a curated selection of homewares, helps to add creative interest into the space.
COMFORT
Fall has us reaching for all of the cozy textures that make staying inside so exciting. At the end of the day, we really are creatures of comfort! Not only do we want to be surrounded by beautiful objects, but we also choose to envelop ourselves in their euphoria.
When adding texture to your home, think of where you will get the most use out of of each item. Switch up your bedding and invite creative interest with patterned coverlets textures to instantly invite subtle warmth.
In the living room, use block print pillows in moodier earthy tones to signal a change in the season. Add interest into your space in a unique way with textured seating, such as our favorite boucle statement chair. These pieces will have you yearning for days spent in and cozying up in your space!
If you can't make a day trip for an annual fall forage, be sure to light the Douglas Fir & Ancient vetiver candle from Flamingo Estate to create a magically ethereal environment. Choose your candle, cozy up on the sofa with a plush blanket in hand, and get in a good read. After all of the sun worship we've done over the summer, the stillness of September is welcomed at much slower
pace.
ADORN
Pass us all of the cashmere, please! If you've come into Olive home, you know that our team can't resist throwing on a plush sweater and pairing it with wide leg denim and a pair of our favorite sneakers. It is our go to look for the fall that is comfy, chic, and so easy to put together. Below are some of our most anticipated looks to shop from a list of our tried and true favorite retailers.
Start off your look with a warm taupe or brown cashmere sweater, you absolutely will NOT regret adding these timeless pieces to your wardrobe capsule. They are versatile and effortlessly chic! Our team has been obsessed with Quince, whose brand is based on the transparency of their ethically sourced products.
You will always find us reaching for a good pair of denim. There is something so undeniably cool about wearing a pair of straight or wide leg jeans that act as statement piece for any outfit.
Complete your look with a moody mushroom nail color and a spritz from our latest favorite scents from House of Bō to really encapsulate all of the fall feels.
Forage
September beckons the transition into cooking season. We love an al fresco dinner for those warm summer nights with farm fresh produce and minimal cooking heat, but the cooler nights has us yearning for hearty meals cooking on the stove!
Get your kitchen essentials out and whip up a creamy mushroom risotto that has all of the comforting aromas of fall in one dish. Whether you're cooking for a cozy night in, or throwing a dinner party with friends, your taste buds will be satisfied with the velvety texture of the flavors from this gorgeous meal.
Start your morning with our favorite mushroom iced coffee, which promises all the energy, without any of the jitters. We love that there is less that 50mg of caffeine per serving so we don't get that icky feeling post morning sip. Pair this delicious recipe with a pumpkin chai morning bun to indulge in all of the delicious fall flavors.
Tempt us with a delicious cocktail recipe, and we will make it (not once, not twice, but all season long!). We happened upon the Frothy Whipped Coffee White Russian from Half Baked Harvest and are completely sold on its velvety texture, perfect for cooler nights.
September musings has been an absolute treat to create, and one that has us so excited for all the metaphorical fall foraging, not only in search of mushrooms, but for new decor, cozy textures, and delicious meals! We hope that Mushroom inspires a centered month filled with earthy hues to welcome in a beautiful month.
